Reading TAKS strategies

August 31, 2007

booksIn third grade we use the TAKS strategy called PLORE. PLORE stands for

P= preview and predict.

L= locate all the underlined vocabulary words in the passage.

O= organize the information by circling the paragraph numbers and taking short notes about the paragraph.

R= read and reread the passage.

E= eliminate the answer choices you KNOW are wrong and evaluate by looking back at the story and finding the answers.

We will be learning about and practicing PLORE in the coming months.

Baggie Books

Students are required to bring home baggie books. Along with their books, students will be given a “Reading Log” which must be signed by the parent at LEAST 3 times a week. These forms will be turned in weekly on Friday along with the students baggie book.
